Kiruna Reindeer Sledding

This Long Reindeer Sledding Excursion takes place in the small Sámi village of Rávttas, tucked away peacefully at the edge of the endless Arctic nature about 20km from Kiruna. Much of Swedish Lapland has been recognized as an environment of cultural value by the EU (Natura2000). This is your chance to encounter the genuine life of the reindeer people. The tour begins with a pick up in Kiruna and transfer to our location. Here you are outfitted with winter clothing and then meet our semi-domesticated reindeer. You will get close to our herd, and some will even eat from your hand. 

The biological diversity in this area is a fundamental prerequisite for the reindeer’s existence. In this area, our ancestors once lived as nomads until they settled in the mid-20th century.

Upclose Reindeer Encounter and Extended Sledride

The highlight of this tour is the ride with the reindeer sled through the snowy and silent forests and frozen marshes. At this time of the year, we have plenty of snow and can access parts of the wilderness that remain out of reach in the summer. This extended ride of about 4-5km is the perfect opportunity to experience what life was like as a reindeer herder back in time, before snowmobiles and other inventions. Historically, reindeer were always tamed for transportation and other uses. It’s an unforgettable experience trying to steer the reindeer sled, watching them interact with eachother and simply enjoying the nature of Swedish Lapand. 

After the ride, it’s time to relax and enjoy your lunch with ecological, smoked and fried reindeer meat (suovas) and bread, sitting on soft reindeer hides around the fire in our hut. As we prepare food and coffee over the open fire, listen to our stories and learn more about the Sami culture. Then we take you back to Kiruna.

Pick up from Kiruna Tourist Information, Camp Ripan, Arctic Eden included, please speficy at the time of booking and be ready at 10:00 for pick up. Please note that we cannot pick up from any other locations outside of Kiruna. If you are arriving by car, please arrive by 10:30 at this address: RAUTAS 4, Kiruna, Sweden
