Snowshoeing in Abisko National Park: A Guided Winter Hike

Experience the magic of the Swedish mountains on a guided tour going snowshoeing in Abisko National Park. This 2.5-hour adventure allows you to immerse yourself in the sparkling snowfields of the Abisko valley while learning the traditional wintry way of movement.

Hiking through the Abisko valley provides a unique opportunity to witness the raw beauty of one of Sweden’s most iconic regions. As you walk over the deep snow, you will be surrounded by the dramatic mountains and valleys that make this area a world-class destination for nature lovers.

The valley is a thriving ecosystem where many animals dwell in the protected birch forests during the winter months. The possibility of seeing wildlife tracks is very high. While Snowshoeing in Abisko National Park, keep your eyes peeled for the prints of forest hare, ptarmigan, foxes, and lemmings. If you are lucky, you might even spot the massive tracks of the king of the forest – the moose moving patiently through the brush.

Snowshoes are the perfect tool to explore this terrain without sinking into the drifts, allowing you to move silently through the fells and enjoy the Arctic nature in its purest form.

Spectacular Views of Lapporten and Torneträsk

During the tour, we take a well-deserved break to enjoy some warm berry juice. In the silence of the forest, you can truly appreciate the stillness of the North and the sough of the forest.

On clear days, the hike offers a spectacular view over Lake Torneträsk and the Abisko mountain range. This includes a clear sight of Lapporten, the famous U-shaped valley sculpted by the ice age that serves as the “Gateway to Lapland.” This iconic landmark is one of the most photographed mountain formations in all of Sweden, and seeing it from the snowfields is an unforgettable highlight of Snowshoeing in Abisko National Park.

The contrast between the sparkling snow crystals and the blue mountain shadows creates a perfect backdrop for photography and deep nature appreciation.
