Snowshoeing in Abisko from Kiruna

Our adventure begins with a spectacular 100 km drive from Kiruna to Abisko. The road follows the historic “Iron Ore Railway” winding through Swedish Lapland and slowly climbing towards Lake Torneträsk, one of Sweden’s largest mountain lakes. 

During the one-hour journey, your guide will share the fascinating history of the pioneers who built the railway in the early 1900s. Once we arrive in Abisko, we’ll strap on our snowshoes to trek along the semi-frozen “Abisko Jåkka” creek.

This is a journey of discovery where we explore animal tracks, local flora, and fauna, while learning about the scientific research conducted in this unique subarctic environment.

Pickup from three locations in Kiruna is included: Camp Ripan, Hotel Arctic Eden, and Hotel Scandic. Please arrive at your pickup point 10–15 minutes early to ensure a timely departure.

This Snowshoeing tour in Abisko is suitable for guests with moderate fitness, guests need to be able to walk 5km in moderately hilly terrain. 

Please dress warmly with several layers, according the weather forecast and temperatures in Abisko. Wear sturdy winter boots for the best experience with the snowshoes. We do not provide additional clothing for this tour. We provide the snowshoes and a hearty lunch, please inform us of allergies or dietary restrictions at the time of booking.
