Wildlife and Nature Photo Tour

This Wildlife and Nature photo tour focuses on getting closer to Arctic wildlife and the local culture. After pick up, we head out of Kiruna and drive on empty roads, often with views of Sweden’s highest mountain, Kebnekaise, on the horizon. We search for animals like moose, reindeer, ptarmigan, hare, and fox. Our local guides share their knowledge of nature, photography, and Sámi life. We choose our routes based on the weather and Sámi eight seasons, searching for good nature sceneries and opportunities to photograph what is special for that time of year.

Photographic Themes and Wildlife Strategy

In order to catch Arctic animals with our lenses, we have to be adapt to their seasonal behaviour. During winter (Nov–Feb), animals often come down to the valley in search of food, while in summer and autumn they are more shy and harder to approach. Equipped with our telephoto lenses (provided free of charge), we try to sneak up on wildlife to capture authentic moments. On the tour, we also focus on landscape photography and catching the beautifal Arctic light. After the trip, you will have practiced using the camera, gained more knowledge about Arctic nature, and learned about the Sámi people. Please note that we can never guarantee pictures of wild animals, but our guides will apply their local knowledge to maximize your chances.

Essential Tour Logistics and Practical Details

The tour includes: a professional photo guide; a camera with a tele-lens; hot drinks and cake and pick-up from Icehotel, Kiruna tourist office, or Camp Ripan (alternative pickup available for extra charge). Cover clothes and warm shoes are available on request. The Wildlife and Nature photo tour runs daily, with seasonal departure times. Pick up from the city center is at 8:30, while pick up from Icehotel varies per season (Nov-Feb: 9:00, Mar: 8:00). We photograph wild animals, so following the guide’s safety instructions is mandatory. If you borrow equipment, you are responsible for keeping it safe (repair fees apply for damage). Please note that SD memory cards are not included but can be purchased, and food allergies or restrictions must be notified at the time of booking.
